With evidence highlighting that upwards of 50,000 young people are not accounted for in work or study across Australia, something different is required to be done by the sector at large. This session will outline an alternative approach.

In this session, Maria and David from the Specialised Assistance School for Youth (SASY) in Adelaide, will discuss the theories and give examples on how individual school staff and the whole school can embed a youth centred approach to building trauma informed authentic relationships that promote wellbeing and enable learning for disengaged young people.

The session will be centred on how authentic human connections with vulnerable young people is in fact the foundation to learning, as these connections create a sense of safety, community, and calm, all of which are the initial steps to a rich and positive learning pathway.
