The new Australian Curriculum - the profession prepares
Sydney Hilton, 488 George St , Sydney , NSW
Monday 27 September to Tuesday 28 September 2010.
2010 has seen a new national agenda in education emerging. The Australian Curriculum, Assessment and Reporting Authority (ACARA) has released drafts of the new Australian Curriculum with the K-10 curriculum due for release in August/September 2010 and implementation to begin from 2011. The new Australian Institute for Teaching and School Leadership (AITSL) has released draft professional standards for teachers and we have seen the merger of Curriculum Corporation with Education.au to establish Education Services Australia.
It is an important time for school-based leaders as professionals to engage with the national agenda and consider what it means for their professional practice and programs, their school community and their students.
If you are the person responsible for implementing the new Australian Curriculum in your school you must join us for this exciting two day symposium which will present a range of views from curriculum experts and professional associations on how we can conceptualise the new Australian Curriculum. The symposium will consider the following questions:
- What are the conceptual frameworks of the new Australian Curriculum?
- How can we can ensure the new curriculum meets the diverse needs and experiences of young people in the 21st century - addressing the critical questions of equity, engagement and excellence?
- How can we organise effective whole school learning environments to successfully enact the new Australian Curriculum?
- What responsibility do the different players have to make the curriculum work well and what particular responsibility does the profession have?
- What are the emerging challenges and responses to take forward to create an agenda for action?
